Microsoft Windows Abandonment
The Microsoft news these days regarding Vista, the next Office, and IE 7 is really boring me.  I do not ever recall feeling so little excitment for MS's OS releases before.  Well, I did not ever care for Windows ME but I was running Windows 2000 on my personal machines then.  I was looking for a Windows NT flavor built for the home user.  Windows XP has to be the best OS Microsoft has released, it merged the best parts of 95 with NT.  The boot time was the best seller of the product in my opinion.

Vista seems to be Microsoft's answer to a new release, but not a new OS.  Basically Vista is a UI overhawl that will just eat even more memory.

My goal is to never use another Microsoft OS after XP.  I will keep using XP and when I feel that I am forced to switch I will go to a flavor of Linux.  However, when the following apps are converted I will sooner:

  • Photoshop - Gimp doesn't have it all just yet.

  • Quicken - GnuCash is not at all a replacment.  I need online access to certain accounts, detailed budgets, a load of other features I use from Quicken.

  • Dreamweaver - I only use code editing in dreamweaver so I do not understand why I cannot find an app in Linux to do this.  However, I like Dreamweavers side bar's with all the files on a project level.

  • That's it!  I am already useing mostly open source/freeware tools in Windows, so other then the above a switch would be easy.
